Partitioning the HDD

Partitioning is a very necessary thing to learn while you choose 'Computer World'. There are many uses of Partitioning for different works to be completed. For Ex: For Installing Windows, To create new Partition, To decrease number of Partition on your system.

Most of us know it but due to un-consistency in use of method of Partitioning we forget the method sometime. To do partitioning 'Windows Disk Manager' utility is best for Windows and for Linux 'GParted' is used to Partition the Hard Disk Drive.

Partitioning is done by keeping the following thing in mind.

a] What is the size of the new partition you want?

b] See which partition have enough free space to create a new partition out of it.

c] Shrink that partition and create 'Un-allocated Space'.

d] Convert that 'Un-allocated Space' into a new Partition.

\\STARTING TUTORIAL\\

1] Click on 'Start' button in your Windows.

Then Search 'Create and Format'. Then you should see the option as shown in image.

Select it. A new software will open.

Actually it is Windows Disk Manager Utility.

We are going to use this for partitioning.

See the Image.

2] Then you have to select the partition you want to shrink.

Then right click on that partition.

Click on 'Shrink Volume'.

See the Image.

3] Then the software will see for available space to shrink.

See the Image.

4] A new small Window will open. In third box Enter the size of new partition you want to create.

For EX: if you want 8GB Partition, enter 8000 .

Then click 'Shrink' button.

See the Image.

5] You will see that there is a new black box created with the same size you entered in step 4.

This black box is called Un-allocated Space. That means that this space is not assigned to any partition. We can created many partitions with this 'Un-allocated Space'.

See the Image.

6] Now we will create Partition from this 'Un-allocated Space'.

Right click on the 'Black Box'.

Select the first option saying 'New Simple Volume'.

See the Image.

7] A new window will open. Click 'Next'.

See the Image.

8] In this step just click on 'Next' button.

See the Image.

9] In this window you can select the Drive Letter.

For EX: J,K,L,D,T etc. from which are available.

We will just click on 'Next' button.

See the Image.

10] In next Window you are provided with many options.

We will pretend like a blind and just click on 'Next' button.

See the Image.

11] In this last step just click 'Finish'.

Then you will see that your 'Un-allocated Space' has been converted into a new disk Partition.

See the Image.

END

Merging the Partitions

Merging is done by keeping the following thing in mind.

i] Select the Partition in which you want to merge others.(Primary Partition)

ii] Move all data from other partitions to Primary Partition.

iii] Delete other Partitions. And create 'Un-allocated Space'.

iv] Merge the un-allocated space to the Primary Partition.

Merging the partitions is also a very simple process. This process is also most useful when i will write Posts for Dual Booting. In this process you have to select a primary Partition among all your partition. That means you have to select a Partition in which you are going to merge all your Partitions.

In this post i have considered my 'C' Partitions as my Primary Partition, that means i will merge other partitions into 'C' Partition.

You also have to make sure that you backup all your data to an External device. OR You can also transfer your data to your Primary Partition. The data stored in the Partitions we are going to delete will be lost (not forever).

I will suggest you that you should install Widows in VMware Workstation and practice these steps there.

So now you are ready to learn How to learn Partitions.

****************WARNING**************

THE PARTITIONS YOU DELETE WILL LOST ALL DATA STORED ON THEM.
BACKUP YOUR DATA SOMEWHERE SAFE. NEVER DELETE 'C' DRIVE.
