How to create a Virtual Machine in VMware Workstation.
Fully Graphical Tutorial.
Hi there welcome to Explore Xiaomi Blog spot.
Today we are going to learn how to create a Virtual Machine in 'VMware Workstation'.
All the Download links are at the end of the Tutorial. This tutorial is for teaching you how to create a Virtual Machine of an OS(Operating System).
This tutorial is fully graphical, that means every step is decried with photos below them. Creating Virtual Machine is very easy and more easier on VMware Workstation. So keep on reading and Learning.
\\Starting Tutorial.
Along with reading the steps keep on watching the images. This will make
understanding easier. Please also see the images attached below every step.
1] Open VMware Workstation. You should open the Workstation as 'Administrator'.
Follow the steps in image.
2] Click on 'Create New Virtual Machine' icon shown in Photo.
3] A new window will open that will give you two options.
a] Typical: You have to do less settings. (Choose This)
b] Custom: Very intense set of settings.
Then Click Next. Also see the Image.
4] After clicking 'Next' you will be provided three options.
Select 'I will install OS later'. Now click 'Next' button.
5] On clicking 'Next' you will get a list of various Operating System and
their versions below.
Select the Operating System for which you want to make the Virtual Machine.
I am going to install Linux Mint 18.2, so i selected 'Linux'.
Below these options there is a drop down menu. Open it and select version of
your Operating System.
I have selected 'Ubuntu 64bit' because Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu.
Now Click 'Next'.
Also see the image.
6] A new window will open. Firstly enter the name you want to give to your PC.
Now click on 'Browse'.
(This option provides you ability to store Virtual Machine at your desired location in you PC.)
7] A new window will open.
In this Window select the folder in which you want to store your Virtual Machine.
In my case i have selected 'D Drive'.
After selecting click 'OK'.
8] After that you will be back to the 'Step 6' window.
Just click 'Next'
9] After clicking 'Next' you get a very simple step. Please read i will explain it.
First option is for size of Virtual Machine. Actually it is size of HDD of
Virtual OS.
*Note: Giving it '30 GB' size will never create a partition on your main HDD.
It just creates a file in the destination you gave in step 7.
The file does not take whole 30 GB space. But increases as you store
data in Virtual Machine OS.
30 GB is in-uff for Windows OS or Linux OS.
Now click on 'Store as single file'.
Then click on 'Next'. SEE IMAGE.
10] In next window click on 'Customize Hardware'.
( A new window will open where we can select RAM size and processor of our Virtual OS.)
See image then....
11] In new window that just opened click 'Memory'.
On right hand side increase RAM size between 2500-3000 MB.
See Image.
12] Now click on 'Processors'.
On right side increase 'Number of cores per processor' to 2. See Image.
13] Now select third option 'New CD/DVD....'
On right hand side select 'Use ISO image file'
then click on 'Browse' button.
See image.
14] A new window have opened in which you have to select ISO file.
WARNING******
Only select the same ISO file for which you created VM Machine in step 5.
Example.
*******************************************************************
I have created the VM Machine for Linux Mint so i will select Linux Mint ISO
OR
I have to install Linux Mint so i created a VM Machine for Linux Mint in step 5.
***************************************************************************
After selecting the ISO file click on 'Open' Button.
15] Now you are back to the Window that opened in Step 10.
Click on 'Close' button.
16] Now our main window is Opened.
Click on 'Finish' button.
That's it we have created a Virtual Machine in which we can install Linux
Mint very easily.
Isn't it easy? Tell me in comment below. You can also comment
any doubt or any problem you encounter.
The creation of a Virtual Machine does not install the Operating System,
you have to install the OS after you are done creating the Virtual Machine.
Some Tips regarding this Tutorial.
1] Be careful while selecting 32bit and 64bit Operating System.
If you have ISO image of 32bit then you should create Virtual Machine of
32bit.
2] Follow every step as described in Tutorial.
